Childhood Sweethearts

Lucy Crane and Dominic Morley, 13th September 2003

When Lucy and Dominic were 12 years old they belonged to the same youth club - some years later they returned to be married in the adjacent church!

THEY MET
when we were 12 years old at a youth club! The couple remained friends for years but didn’t start dating until they were 20.

THEY TIED THE KNOT
at the church next to our childhood youth club, St Michael & All Angels in Hughenden Valley at 1pm on a beautiful sunny day with the reception afterwards at Lillibrooke Manor, near Maidenhead.

THE VENUE
was one of the few places close enough to the church and large enough for the number of guests and was located through Country House Wedding Venues (01244 572030; www.wedding venues.co.uk). It also bowled the couple over with its fairytale charm, surrounded by vineyards and fields and they loved the fact that the whole place was theirs for the day, including an elegant interior, two courtyards and a bar area converted from a former exercise room for horses.

WEDDING PLANS
took on a whole new aspect when the couple won the competition for a wedding co ordinator in Wedding Venues & Services magazine. Helen Hitchcock at Milestone Weddings (020 8488 7223; www.milestoneweddings.co.uk) had fantastic ideas about how to make the couple’s wedding dreams a reality, from bows on the pew ends in the church and a white London taxi as the wedding car (to incorporate their love of London where they currently live) to ideas on making their own wedding stationery. Helen also liaised with all the suppliers, sorted out the prices and details, picked up the cake, set up the venue in the morning and ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. The couple found it saved money by having contacts and wedding negotiation skills, and took away a huge amount of stress, especially on the day when they didn’t have to think about a thing!

SHE WORE
an ivory strapless dress by Rosetta Nicolini from House of Fraser (0870 1607258; www.houseoffraser.co.uk) with a long train, a full length crystal studded veil by Joyce Jackson, ivory high heeled shoes with a sparkling buckle from Paradox and a tiara by Liza. The bouquet was made up of ivory calla lilies and foliage hand tied with ribbon - Flowers by Maggie (01628 635732).

HE WORE
a grey morning coat with tails, light stripe trousers and an ivory and silver waistcoat with a silver cravat.

THE BRIDESMAIDS
had dark red strapless gowns from Monsoon with matching shoes and smaller versions of the bridal bouquet.

DURING THE CEREMONY
over a hundred guests watched on as the couple, filled with emotion, exchanged their vows. Lucy was so nervous that she had to have a bottle of water during the ceremony and Dominic welled up during the readings and when signing the register. All the guests commented afterwards that they had never seen two people smile so much!

AT THE RECEPTION
a love heart theme decorated the tables with name cards that said ‘dream boy’ or ‘dream girl’ and menus with the wording ‘dishy, try me, start now’. The table names were all love hearts too - ‘love’, ‘lush lips’ and ‘wild thing’ - and there were white and red ‘just married’ love hearts scattered on the tables like confetti. Candles created a warm atmosphere while a surprise addition had been made by the parents - a montage on the back wall of photos of the couple growing up!

THEY ATE
caramelised onion tart with rocket salad, braised lamb shank with Mediterranean vegetables and rosemary and garlic olive oil mashed potato, and roast peaches with almonds and mascarpone cream. The caterers were Luxters Wild Thyme (0118 984 5990; www.luxters.co.uk).

THE CAKE
was made by Amanda Hansen at Exquisite Cakes (01527 89455; www.exquisitecakes.com) and had the topmost tier arranged above a bouquet of white calla lilies made of sugar.

FIRST DANCE
Dusty Springfield’s ‘So much love’.

AFTERWARDS
the wedding party went to the Holiday Inn and stayed up until the early hours, meeting the following morning for a celebratory breakfast.

THE HONEYMOON
was spent in Australia for 3 weeks taking in the Rainforest, Sydney, Cairns, Hayman Island and Ayers Rock.
